How you qualify for Second Career

The Second Career strategy launched by the Ontario Ministry of Training, pays for the training or education needed by Ontarians to get a better job. This program provides financial help of up to $28,000 put towards :

  • - tuition,
  • - books,
  • - living allowance,
  • - child care,
  • - disability support

You can qualify for Second Career if:

  • - you have been laid off and have not been working
  • - you have been laid off and are working a temporary job to cover costs
You can still apply, even if you’re receiving Employment Insurance (EI), or have in the past.

When completing your application, you also have to show:

  • - how long you have been unemployed or working your temporary job, while looking for work
  • - workplaces you have applied and positions you have applied for (e.g. cover letters, CV and responses from potential employers)
  • - what level of education you've completed
  • - where you worked before, for how long and skills required for that job
  • - what skills you want to get and where you can get them
  • - information that the skills and job you want to train for are in demand
